What will God forgive?

We really don’t know, says our elder. But while we’re here, we need to take care of ourselves.

Dear EWC:

I have a question in regards to God’s forgiveness. I’ve committed blasphemy more than once and I’m scared that I might be going to hell. I asked for forgiveness multiple times, Will God forgive me for blasphemy. He’s what I used to do, I used to yell at God while I was praying and take my anger out on God. Will he forgive me?

Also, does God forgive suicide? Someone in my family committed suicide and I’m having thoughts of suicide myself. I’ve been having thoughts of suicide since I was 17 years old and now I’m 28. Will God forgive me if I take my life?

I have accepted Jesus into my heart and as my Lord and Savior. Would God forgive suicide to those who believe in him?

Papa-Dude replies:

The most important thing you can do is take care of yourself. If you have thoughts of hurting yourself it’s time to get help. I know because I’ve been there. There is good effective help, but you must reach out for it. If those feelings are strong call the suicide helpline or go to an emergency room. I promise it can and will get better.

As far as if God forgives blasphemy and suicide, I really don’t know. Many churches teach that the only sin God doesn’t forgive is despair (suicide). It seems to me that it’s a good idea to hedge your bets and stay alive, just in case the churches are right. I’m pretty sure he forgives everything else. We’re human and I think he must know that.

I wish you well. Please write back and let me know how you’re doing. Give yourself the help you need. You’ll be glad you did.
