I feel so alone

A letter writer needs help figuring it all out.

You are worthy just as you are, says our elder. The first step? Choose to believe in yourself.

Dear EWC

Hello, I’m not quite legally old enough to leave my parents but I don’t get much support from them. I feel like there’s so much I want to say, there’s so much on my mind, my worries, my fears, everything. I feel so old despite being so young. I’m sorry if this isn’t enough information, but I myself am confused. I just want someone to help me figure it out. I feel so alone sometimes. Sorry for being stupid.

Ms.Mary replies

It sounds like you are struggling and have to bear more than your fair share. I’m so sorry. You aren’t stupid, and I’d like very much to help you. For now, please trust that your life won’t always be like this; your life will improve. Please know that you are enough and are worthy just as you are, regardless of what anyone else may have said.

To get started, it is important that you believe in yourself. Believing in yourself is simply a choice; it doesn’t have to do with anything you’ve accomplished. Decide that you will have courage, believe in yourself, and get through this troubling time. The only limitations are the ones you set for yourself. Your thoughts are very powerful. You become what you think, so you must govern your thoughts. For now, it is enough to know that you have much more control than you think – by thinking deliberately about what you want instead of the problems you face.

  •   Please tell me more about yourself, anything that will help me understand you better.
  •   I’d also like to know the things you like the most about yourself (your characteristics).
  •   What do you enjoy?
  •   What do you think would make you happy in life?

I’d appreciate it very much if you could answer those questions best you can. There are no rights or wrongs. Anything you say is okay and will make it easier for me to offer advice. I hope to gradually help you to look at your situation differently (more optimistically) so that you aren’t confused and can rise above your current circumstances.

I hope I hear back from you! I’m rooting for you and believe in you. I’m sending lots of good thoughts your way. You deserve to be happy and live the life you desire. I’ll close with a favorite quote of mine.

“Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life. Tiptoe if you must, but take a step.” Naeem Gallaway
