The ugh-ness that is my life

We’ve all been there, says our elder, and no one has all the answers. It’s up to you to find your way.

Dear EWC:

Hi, some days I feel as if my life is sprawling out of control! Nobody gets it! Ugh, it’s hard to explain.

I feel as if I have little to no control over the slimeball of sadness and ugh-ness that is my life! Some days, tbh, my life is easy and, well, good. Some days I’m as happy as a lonely slug that was trampled on! Some days I’m very negative and sad but when I don’t remember that my legit issues exist, I’m fine 🙂 My mom says it’s “a phase and quarantine syndrome” or whatever…

Just wanted to ask you what you thought and how you could help me:) Have a wonderful day, elder.

Your feelings are not unusual for someone your age. You are transitioning from being a child into being an adult. You are at a point in your life where it’s all about learning. School is important, that’s for sure, but it’s not the only thing you are learning. You are learning about yourself; who you are, who you will be, and how to deal with this crazy world you find yourself in.

We all go through it, so don’t worry if you don’t have all the answers right now, no one does. And, when I say that no one does, I especially mean your friends and acquaintances in school. None of you have the answers, and you are all trying to find your way.

The point is what we are talking about here are feelings. Feelings have no reason or logic; they are feelings. One feels what they feel and that’s that. But humans do best when they are in balance between their head and their heart. Try for that balance. The thing that is important is you need to believe in yourself and trust yourself. Trust your heart but use your head. If you do that, you will be OK. Your mom is right; you will get past these bad feelings.

What you can do in the meantime is to focus your energy on something you like. Perhaps you can make some new friends. Mix with new people. I think joining a club that’s about something you are interested in, or volunteering for an organization that’s about a cause you believe in is a great thing to do, even if it’s only online. Not only will it help you keep busy, but also you will be in contact with new people who already share an interest with you. You just might make a few new friends, and no one can have too many friends.

So, it’s really up to you how you want your life to go. I hope you choose to look for the good more so than the bad and I hope things work out for you. Good luck.
